12 Classic Party Games Kids Actually Love

Once the bouncy castle has worked its magic, the kids might need a few calmer games to fill the rest of the party. Here are 12 tried & tested party games with instructions, ideal ages, and a little parent-tip for each. Save this page for later!

1. Pass the Parcel

#1
Ages 3-10 6+ players 10 min

A British party classic! Wrap a small prize in many layers of paper. Kids sit in a circle and pass it while music plays. When the music stops, the child holding the parcel unwraps one layer. The child to unwrap the final layer wins the prize.

Parent tip: Hide a sweet or sticker between layers so every child gets something — saves tears!

2. Pin the Tail on the Donkey

#2
Ages 3-8 4+ players 15 min

Stick a big donkey poster on the wall. Blindfold each child, spin them gently, and let them pin a paper tail wherever they think. Closest to the right spot wins a prize.

Parent tip: Swap the donkey for a unicorn, bouncy castle or dinosaur to match your theme.

3. Musical Statues

#3
Ages 4-10 6+ players 10 min

Play music and let the kids dance. When the music stops, everyone freezes. Anyone who moves is out. Last one standing wins. Brilliant after a sugar rush!

Parent tip: Pair with Musical Chairs (need one less chair than kids) for a back-to-back classic.

4. Sleeping Lions

#4
Ages 3-8 4+ players 5 min

Every parent's secret weapon. The kids lie on the floor pretending to be sleeping lions. One or two are "hunters" who try to make them giggle or move WITHOUT touching them. The last lion still pretending to sleep wins.

Parent tip: Perfect for calming everyone down after the bouncy castle!

5. Mini Treasure Hunt

#5
Ages 4-10 4+ players 20 min

Hide small treats (chocolate coins, stickers) around the party space or garden. Give each child a little bag and a list (or picture clues for younger ones). First to find them all wins extra goodies.

Parent tip: Make it teams for older kids — keeps the competition friendly.

6. Duck Duck Goose

#6
Ages 3-7 6+ players 10 min

Kids sit in a circle. One walks around tapping heads saying "duck, duck, duck…" then suddenly "GOOSE!" — the goose has to chase them around the circle and try to tag them before they sit in the empty spot.

Parent tip: Great filler game while waiting for food or before the cake.

7. Balloon Pop Surprise

#7
Ages 4-10 4+ players 10 min

Put a small note inside a balloon (challenge, joke or prize description) before blowing it up. Hang balloons or pile them up. Kids take turns popping a balloon and doing what the note says.

Parent tip: Mix in some "winner — extra sweet!" notes to keep it exciting.

8. How Low Can You Go? (Limbo)

#8
Ages 5-10 4+ players 15 min

Hold a stick (or skipping rope) between two adults. Kids take turns going under, bending BACKWARDS — no touching the floor with hands! Lower the stick each round. Last one through wins.

Parent tip: Pop some reggae or party music on for proper limbo vibes.

9. Simon Says

#9
Ages 3-8 4+ players 10 min

Adult is "Simon". When they say "Simon says jump!", everyone jumps. But if they just say "Jump!" without "Simon says", anyone who jumps is out. Sounds easy — kids fall for it every time!

Parent tip: Combine silly actions (hop on one leg, pretend to be a frog) to make them giggle.

10. Mushroom (Parachute Game)

#10
Ages 3-8 6+ players 10 min

If you have a parachute (or large sheet), everyone holds the edges. Lift it high above heads, then pull it down behind you — sit on the edge — and the kids are inside the "mushroom"! Great for younger ones.

Parent tip: Put soft balls on top first and watch them go flying — the kids LOVE this.

11. Red Light Green Light

#11
Ages 4-10 4+ players 10 min

Kids line up at one end. Adult faces away and shouts "GREEN LIGHT" — kids run. "RED LIGHT" — adult turns around and everyone must freeze. Anyone caught moving goes back to the start. First to tag the adult wins.

Parent tip: Squid-Game vibes but make it cute!

12. The Chocolate Game

#12
Ages 5-10 6+ players 15 min

Put a wrapped chocolate bar, knife, fork, hat, scarf and gloves on a plate. Kids roll a dice in turn. Roll a 6 and you put on the hat/scarf/gloves and try to unwrap and eat the chocolate WITH the knife and fork — until someone else rolls a 6 and takes over.

Parent tip: Use a Family Friendly choc bar. Chaos. Pure chaos.
